A wide variety of procedures are undertaken under local or topical anaesthetic, or sedation in the operating theatre for ambulatory patients. Patients undergoing a procedure in the theatre are recovered in the adjacent recovery area and are then ready to go home within a short time. These procedures include arthroscopy, colonoscopy, colposcopy, gastroscopy, bronchoscopy, cystoscopy, knee arthoscopy, vasectomy, skin lesions, hand and foot surgery, and flexible sigmoidoscopy.
