Training
Before establishing the Department of Gastroenterology at Epsom General Hospital
Dr. Gould was widely trained in all aspects of the specialty. Following research
into inflammatory bowel disease at St Mark's Hospital and further clinical
training at the Royal London Hospital he spent a year studying alcoholic liver
disease at the University of Toronto before coming as a Consultant to Epsom in
1981.
Career highlights
Whilst at Epsom he established an expanding and well regarded department of
gastroenterology. Whilst there he held a number of different posts including
Medical and Deputy Medical Director of the Trust, Regional Specialty Adviser to
the Royal College of Physicians, Regional Representative to the British Society
of Gastroenterology, Chairman of the Gastroenterology Specialty Training
Committee (SW Thames) and examiner for the Royal College of Physicians. He has
continued to publish papers on different aspects of gastroenterology throughout
his career.
Areas of special interest
Dr. Gould is a very experienced gastroenterologist and general physician. He
has a particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel
syndrome, dyspepsia and screening for colorectal cancer. He has an OP clinic on
a Wednesday morning at the Clockhouse and offers a weekly endoscopy list (OGD
and colonoscopy), including an Open Access service. He is available to see
patients for urgent consultations at a time to suit individual patients.
