Mr. Roy
Twyman MBBS FRCS FRCS(orth)
Mr. Roy
Twyman is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Epsom and
St. Helier University Hospitals NHSTrust specialising in knee
surgery.
He
undertook his undergraduate studies at the Westminster Hospital,
qualifying in 1982, before obtaining his basic surgical training
in London, Norwich and Cambridge.
Mr.
Twyman completed his Orthopaedic training in London at The
Westminster, Middlesex and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospitals.
He then spent a year on a fellowship at Auckland Hospital in New
Zealand. This time was split between Trauma, Children's
Orthopaedics and knee surgery. On his return to the UK he worked
as a Consultant specialising in sports injuries at The Middlesex
Hospital for a year before taking up a permanent post at Epsom in
late 1994.
His
practice involves all aspects of knee surgery whether congenital,
due to accident, sports injury or arthritis including meniscal
(cartilage) problems, ligament injuries, patellar (kneecap)
dislocation, total and partial knee replacement.
He has
continued an interest in fracture management and hip replacement.
Those
areas of his particular clinical and research interest are
arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, Anterior Cruciate ligament
reconstruction, multiple knee ligament injuries, complex knee
replacements including correction of severe deformities, bilateral
knee replacements and revision knee replacement.
Mr.
Twyman's teaching commitments include organising the training of
knee surgery within the South West Thames Region. He has been the
Clinical lead in the management of trauma and fractures at Epsom
Hospital for a decade, and has taught on the National teaching
programme of the foundation of fracture care in Leeds.

Twyman is on the Specialist Register with the General Medical
Council (No. 2584739).
