Consultants - General Surgery

Mr. Paul Toomey FRCS(Gen)

Mr. Paul Toomey is a Consultant in Colorectal and General Surgery at Epsom and St. Helier University Hospitals Trust. He has special interests are colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and investigation of abdominal & GI Tract symptoms, rectal cancer management strategies and technical aspects of colo-rectal cancer surgery. He is a member of the Royal Marsden Hospital Multidisciplinary Team for Lower GI Tract Cancer.

Mr. Toomey is a member of the Court of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and a member of the Association of Coloproctology.

He is a Royal College of Surgeons Surgical Tutor and Lead Clinician for Colorectal cancer at Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust.

Mr. Toomey's research interest's include colorectal cancer imaging and implications for effective treatment (in conjunction with the Royal Marsden Hospital, London and the Pelican Cancer Foundation, Basingstoke); The development of new surgical strategies and surgical techniques in the effective treatment of Colorectal ccer.
He is a founder member of the MERCURY project in MR imaging and rectal cancer and a member of the Royal Marsden Hospital Expert II study into pre-operative chemo radiation for rectal cancer.

Mr. Paul Toomey is on the Specialist Register with the General Medical Council (No. 2841737).
